Obituary
Gary Schmidt, 69, of Mandan, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2022, after a courageous battle with lung cancer surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 19, 2022, at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home in Mandan, ND. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Gary J. Schmidt was born June 16, 1953, in Mandan, ND, to Floyd and Ella (Popelka) Schmidt. Gary grew up in Mandan and attended school, graduating with the class of 1971. Following graduation, Gary, became a jack of all trades, primarily in roofing, siding, and the construction industry. In 1981, Gary was blessed with his first and only daughter, Tasha.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Gary. His dry sense of humor brought laughter to all. He loved to crack jokes and tell stories from the past. Some of his favorite times in life were hunting and fishing with his daughter and son-in-law. He also enjoyed calm nights on the deck with a cold drink in hand listening to country music.
Gary is survived by his daughter, Tasha (Jeremy) Tkach of Bismarck; stepsons, Dennis Swindling of Mandan and Gerald Wood of Mount Jackson, Pennsylvania; brother, Richard (Cindy) Schmidt of Alburnett, Iowa; sister, Delores Ternes of Mandan; sister-in-law, Cherylynn Schmidt of Mandan; his great friend, Mona Wilson of Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Ella Schmidt; brother, Donnie Schmidt; sister, Edna Kottsick; brother-in-law, Gene Kottsick; stepsons, Alan and Charles Wood; nephew, Dean Schmidt; and his life partner, Gerry Agnew.
