Margret Malmgren

Margret Ruth Malmgren ended her earthly journey and went to heaven on July 7, 2022, at the Baptist Care Center.  Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, at First Baptist Church, 306 East Divide Ave, Bismarck.

Burial will be held at Menoken Cemetery, Menoken.

She was born to Carl and Etta (Kruger) Reichenberg on October 29, 1923, in Sutherland, Nebraska.  At a very early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized by immersion in a sand hills lake.  She lived in Arthur County, NE – graduated from District 12 (a one room grade school) in 1937 and Arthur County High School in 1941.  She taught school in District 6 for 3 years and District 12 2 years in Arthur County NE.

Margret and Rev. Stanley Malmgren were married on March 2, 1946, and together began their 50+ years of ministry serving at the following Baptist churches:  Antelope Center/Farnam in NE; Boon, Michigan; Arthur/Center Valley, Chadron/Crawford NE; First Baptist Bismarck and Menoken Community, ND.

Margret taught Sunday School and Bible School classes; sponsored youth groups; was active in Women’s organizations with a heart for missions, provided leadership in church camps and participated in various churches’ musical activities.  She served as pianist for the Menoken Church for eleven years.

Her hobbies were sewing, flower gardening, making church banners and scrapbooking.  In recent years Margret had traveled with her son around the United States and her daughter, Marlene, in Europe. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her children and their families. No matter where they were in the world, she wanted them to know they were loved and remembered them on their birthdays and at Christmas time.  When they could be together, they especially enjoyed Granny’s delicious caramel rolls and their favorite cookies.

Margret is survived by daughters, Karlene (Charles) Fine, Bismarck, and Marlene (Lynn) Long, The Dalles, OR; daughter-in-law, Marilyn (Carl) Malmgren, East Dundee, IL; one brother, Kenneth (Arla), Arthur County, NE; grandchildren, Laura (Nick) Giordano, Seth (Beca) Malmgren, Katrina Fine, Christin Fine (Eric Pearson), Melissa (David) Mettler, Melinda (Dominic) McIntyre and Ryan (Erin) Long; 14 great-grandchildren; and one niece and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by daughter, Karen; son, Carl; grandson, Cam; her husband of 59 years, Stanley; and two brothers, Alfred and Larry.

A special thanks to her caregivers at Prairie Pointe for their care over the past three years, the CHI Health at Home Hospice staff as they tended to her needs the past few months and for the caregivers at the Baptist Home for their care the last two weeks of Margret’s life.
