ShellyJo Ruth Laber, 61, Minot, passed away Friday, July 8, 2022, in a Minot hospital.

ShellyJo was born on January 15, 1961, with twin sister Sherry, in Glasgow, MT to Roland and Virginia (Wandel) Stremcha. She grew up around Minot and in the ‘magic city’ attending Minot Public Schools.

ShellyJo was once married to Jerome Johnson in 1979, they were blessed with a son, Jeremy. ShellyJo married Ben Laber in 1981 and they welcomed daughter Tina in 1982. They followed Ben’s career in the US Air Force throughout the county and overseas until his return to Minot and retirement in 1995. They separated in 2000.

ShellyJo spent her entire life working in service to others. First at Easter Seals, then as a certified nursing assistant for Edgewood Vista, Somerset Court, and Emerald Court. ShellyJo has spent the last 14 years of her life as the bottle shop manager of the Rockin’ Horse Saloon in Minot.

ShellyJo was a happy soul who always shared her smile with others. She loved to dance in her younger years and was a part of many dart and pool games when not focused on winning at bingo. She had a bit of a green thumb and actually enjoyed working outside in her yard. ShellyJo will be remembered for her sense of humor and her giving spirit, always putting others before herself.  She will be missed deeply by all who were blessed to share in her life.

ShellyJo is survived by her children Jeremy Laber, Surrey, ND and Tina (Edward II) Tichy, Minot; grandchildren Heaven Laber and Jasmine Tichy and Kyrstin Young, Mittie, LA and Isabella Tichy, Kief, ND; mother, Virginia Stremcha, Minot; siblings Sherry (Dale) Kashakitis, Riverdale, FL, Sharon (Gary) Powell, Golden Valley, AZ and Eddie (Maryann) Vollmer, Minot, numerous nieces, nephews and former spouse Ben (Judith Leonard) Laber, Granville, ND.
