Bonnie “Bonita” K. Sandmeier, 74, of Bismarck, passed away May 31, 2022, at Sanford Health, Bismarck.
A Memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, June 24, 2022, at the Masonic Lodge, 1009 Basin Ave, Bismarck, ND with Rev. Julie A. K. Anderson officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck, ND. A Livestream of the Service will be available on the Bismarck Funeral Home Facebook page.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 23, 2022, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Bismarck Funeral Home, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the lodge one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Bonnie was born on October 1, 1947, to Charles and Edith (Black) Hayslip in Maysville, Kentucky. She began her career as a nurse in El Paso, TX, proudly working at a level 1 trauma center. When she moved to Bismarck she continued working as a nurse at Medcenter One before working as a nurse at the North Dakota State Penitentiary where she retired on May 1, 2012.
She married Emil Sandmeier on January 2, 2006, in Bismarck, ND where they made their home together. They enjoyed spending time traveling and playing cards. In her spare time, she loved making jewelry, beadworking, sewing, crocheting, and cooking. Her family looked forward to her Sunday evening dinners, cooking enough for an army and always trying new recipes. She also had a special place in her heart for all animals, especially dogs.
Bonnie is deeply missed by her husband, Emil; step son, Bryan (Valeri) Sandmeier; step daughter, Debbie Kenner (Brian Burkett); step grandchildren, James Lewis (Joshua Taylor), Stephen Kenner, Kailey Fettig, Tayler Kenner, Brandon (Annie) Sandmeier, Britney Sandmeier (Brad Murray); step great grandchildren, Benjamin, Sara Lynn, Hunter, Jackson, Gabriel, Owen, Emilia, and Addison; niece, Cindy (Jaun) Arenivas; great nieces, Heather Arenivas and Racheal Arenivas; great great niece, Melody Arenivas and her best friend and long time work associate, Teri Becerra.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Elaine Swain and Jane Hayslip.
In lieu of flowers, Bonnie requested donations to your favorite local animal shelter in her memory.
