Obituary

Ida M. Hatzenbuhler, 98, Mandan, passed away June 4, 2022, at her home in Mandan. 

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, June 9, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with Fr. Josh Waltz celebrating.  Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Parish Rosary/Vigil at 7 PM.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Ida was born December 23, 1923, near Crown Butte, to Alois and Mathilda (Kary) Gratz.  She attended country schools.  On January 12, 1943, she married John R. Hatzenbuhler at St. Vincent’s Church where she was a lifelong member.  They farmed and ranched 16 miles west of Mandan where they made their home.  In 1956, they moved into Mandan where they lived for 14 years, returning to the farm in 1970.  John died March 19, 2001.  Ida enjoyed country living, cooking and having family and friends over for parties, dancing, trips to the casino, and babysitting her grandchildren. 

Blessed to have shared in her life are her two children, Ida (Jim) Bauer and John J. (Stephanie) Hatzenbuhler, all of Mandan; nine grandchildren, Lacey Colton) Bullinger, Kaylee (Tyler) Bretz, John Ross Hatzenbuhler, and Ty Hatzenbuhler; Lori (Troy) Kostelecky, Lynn (Chuck) Zachmeier, Lisa (Blaine) Zachmeier, James (Dee) Bauer, and Tom Bauer; 16 great grandchildren, Justin (Makayla) Kostelecky, Rachel (Dylan) Lemm, and Brian Kostelecky; Chad, Curtis, and Brandon Zachmeier; Renae (Danny) Schimetz and Ryan Zachmeier; Kimberly, Kari, and Kayla Bauer; Caitlyn, Matthew, Timothy, and Jenna Bauer; and Marshall Bullinger; and three great-great grandchildren, Josh, Evelyn, Emma, and one more on the way; in-laws, Florentine Mosbrucker, Jack (Helen) Hatzenbuhler, Lillian Schmidt, Lorraine Gerhardt, and Jim (Lucy) Hatzenbuhler.

Ida was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; daughter, Joan; four brothers, George (Helen), John (Betty), Tony (June), and Jack; and five sisters, Rose (Joe) Kautzman, Johanna (John) Seidel, Beatrice (Anton) Zander, Minnie (Frank) Schiff, and Anne (Jack) Stroh; in-laws, Ralph and Elizabeth Hatzenbuhler; Cecelia (Floyd) Mosbrucker, Ralph Mosbrucker, Isabell (Frank) Schmidt, Simon Schmidt, and Stanley Gerhardt.
