Obituary
June 2nd marked the end of Barbara Dove’s time on earth. She was received into God’s loving arms from the touch of her children’s adoring hands, who were by her side.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at 1:30 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Mandan, Mandan, ND with Pastor Deanna Reikow as officiant. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 6, 2022, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Tuesday.
Barbara was born and raised in Minnewaukan, ND. After attending the University of North Dakota, she returned home, where she met and married the Rev. Ben Dove in 1957.
In 1959 a call to the 1st Presbyterian Church brought them to Mandan, the place she grew to love and called home for the remainder of her life. Eldest son Ben was born in 1961. In 1963, the family home was purchased, providing room for daughter Rebecca in 1964, and son Dan who followed in 1967.
In addition to raising her family Barbara was involved in many church, community, and social activities, as well as entering the workforce in the mid 1970’s after earning her associates degree from BJC.
Barbara loved her home, the place from which she drew the most comfort. She spent countless hours tending her yard and beautiful flower beds. Her natural ability to make guests feel welcome, her sense of humor and her skill in the kitchen made her home a wonderful place to live and visit.
Throughout her life Barbara remained active and filled her time pursuing her personal interests. In addition to gardening, she enjoyed reading, walking, playing bridge, traveling, bird watching and puzzles to name a few.
But most importantly, her time was devoted to her family and friends. Barbara will be remembered for the special, unique relationships she established, nurtured and most importantly, maintained, with everyone she loved. Now that Barbara has become a memory this gift of love will ensure she will remain alive in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Barbara is survived by her children, Ben (Donna) Dove, Collegeville, PA, Rebecca (Peter) Sieling, Woodland Hills, CA, Dan (Tracy) Dove, Bismarck, ND; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; siblings, Jacqueline Morrow, Minneapolis, MN, Edward Schmid, Minnewaukan, ND, Mary O’Briant, Fargo, ND; and special friends, Suzy Phliiger and Daryl Graner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Dove; parents, Bertha and Edward Schmid; stepfather, Melvin Hiaasen; and sister, Marguerite Claypool.
