Obituary

Kathleen “Kathy” Boehm, 79, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family on May 28, 2022, from complications due to a stroke.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:30 AM on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with Fr. Todd Kreitinger celebrating. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Rosary/Prayer Service at 7 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Kathy was born May 5, 1943, in Mandan, the 6th child of Ralph and Katherine (Boehm) Geiger. She grew up west of Mandan, in a rural setting and graduated from Mandan High School in 1960.

She met John W. Boehm and they were married on May 14, 1963. In 1967, they moved to their current residence in rural Mandan where they raised their four children. They enjoyed a life of farming, gardening, and dairy cattle.

Coming from a family with natural musical talent, when Kathy was 50 years old, she decided to buy an acoustic guitar, take lessons, and learned how to play for Sunday mass at St. Martin’s parish in Huff, ND. She has been enriching the masses there by leading the music for over 25 years. Kathy’s strong Catholic faith was evident in her life through her love of God, her family, and her generous and giving spirit.

Kathy will be best remembered for her famous cooking skills. Her specialties include chicken and rice (with raisins), numerous homemade cookie recipes, and pies galore. She also made a wide variety of German dishes that everyone raved about. Her homemade dill pickles were also renowned far and wide. Kathy deeply loved her children, grandchildren, and friends and always welcomed guests with goodies and treats. Sundays you could usually hear the polka party on the radio in the kitchen with feet tapping and humming to the beat. She especially enjoyed listening to her brothers, Emanuel, Donald, and Jim Geiger play accordions and saxophone.
Kathy enjoyed traveling to places such as Branson, Hawaii, Cancun, Alaska, and multiple Caribbean cruises.

Kathy was often teased that she rubbed the varnish off her furniture with how much she cleaned; she always had a spotless house and she disliked dust; it didn’t have a chance!

Blessed to have shared in her life and left with hearts that are heavy but full of wonderful memories is her husband of 59 years, John W. Boehm; sons, John R. (Tamela) Boehm, Jason (Cherie) Boehm, and Jarvis (Tia) Boehm; daughter, Sherry (Rod) Koch; along with 13 grandchildren, Amanda, John F., Steven, LaMarr, and Kenny Boehm; Justin, Jason R., Jerad, Jordan, and Jameson Boehm; and Anna, Kyle, and Eric Koch; 3 great-grandchildren, JJ, Alex, and Anara; 3 brothers, Emmanuel (Bernice) Geiger, Donald (Marlene) Geiger, And Jim (Linda) Geiger; as well as numerous brother-and-sister-in-law’s and many nieces and nephews.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Edmund and Eugene Geiger; sister, Regina Pulkrabek; and three infant sisters.
