Darald Gifford Nielsen, 90, of Minot died Saturday, May 14, 2022, at a Minot hospital.

Darald G. Nielsen was born on July 7, 1931, to Axel and Jesse (Gadba) Nielsen in Minot. He was raised and educated in Minot. He entered the United States Army in July of 1950 and served with the 11th Combat Engineers in Korea. He received three Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and Over Seas Bars. He was honorably discharged in July of 1953.

He worked for the Great Northern Railroad and Burlington Northern Railroad from 1953 to 1993.  

He married Joyce Klimple on June 10, 1956, in Minot where they made their home. He and his wife owned and operated Nielsen’s Greenhouse on Wheels.

Darald was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and NARS all of Minot.

He is survived by his wife Joyce, Son: Randy (Linda) Nielsen of Minot, Daughter: Shelly (Hamid) Khaldi Trinity, Florida. Two very special grandchildren: Brittany (Roger) Fink of Minneapolis, MN and Brady Nielsen of Minot, ND.

Darald was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, infant daughter: Kimberly Jo, brothers: Russel, Leroy, Keith, Kenny, Raymond and Jerry and sisters: Dorothy Lunder, Violet Pasbrig and Barbara Boersma.

At the request of Darald there will be no funeral.
A book signing with the family present will be available on Sunday, May 22, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Private burial will take place at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot at a later date.
