Robert Engh

Robert Engh, 89, Minot and formerly of Sherwood died on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 in his home with his loving family nearby.

Robert George Engh was born on February 22, 1933 in Bottineau, ND to Adolph and Thora (Sorlie-Nelson) Engh.  He was raised in Sherwood and graduated from Sherwood High School in 1952.  Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force on July 31, 1952 and was stationed in San Antonio and Japan where he climbed Mount Fuji.  Following his honorable discharge on July 30, 1956 as a Staff Sergeant in Communications and Security he continued his education at Minot Business College where he received specialized training in accounting.

Robert married Betty Berglof on October 19, 1958 at the Sherwood Methodist Church.  They made their home in Minot where he was employed at Nash Finch as a Billing Clerk for two years prior to beginning his career at the Minot Post Office.  He was employed as an Accounting Technician and Window Clerk prior to his retirement following 41 years of service to the United States Postal Service.  He received a Special Achievement Award from the U.S. P.S. on August 17, 1980.

Bob was a member of First Lutheran Church – Minot as well as the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.  Also, he was a member of Moose Lodge, Association of Postal Workers Union and Eagles Aerie.  He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pool and cards especially pinochle.

Bob’s loving family includes his wife of 63 years Betty; children:  Vicki (Mike) Fitzmaurice, Tim (Wendy) Engh, Randy (Margaret) Engh and Robbie (Kirstin) Engh all of Minot; grandchildren:  Alycia (Lyndon) Coutts, Megan (Brian) Miller and Tommy Fitzmaurice; great grandchildren:  Beau, Mason, Gus and Malin; sister: Thelma Gates of Loraine, ND; in-laws: Denny Berglof, Curt (Jan) Berglof, LaVerne Berglof, JoAnne Berglof, Art Haskins; longtime family friend: Rick Laqua and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Amy (Jean) Lehn, Arnold (Vivian) Engh, Nora (Perry) Gahn, Earl Engh and Karen Haskins; parents-in-law: Mabel and George Berglof and in-laws: Larry Berglof, Bill Gates and Carol Berglof.

Public Visitation:  Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home – Minot. 
There will be a private Celebration of the Life of Robert Engh at Thomas Family Funeral Home – Minot.
Public Graveside Service:  Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 12:30 p.m. at the Union Cemetery – Sherwood.
Public Celebration of Life Gathering and Lunch on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Sherwood Senior Center.
Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church – Minot or to the Veterans of Foreign Wars – Minot.
