Obituary

Doris Hartman, 72, joined our heavenly father on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at CHI St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck surrounded by her family.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 am MST, Tuesday, May 10th at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Carson, ND, with Father Biju Anthony, IMS, as celebrant.  Burial will follow the funeral mass at the Carson Community Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 pm to 7 pm CST Monday, May 9th at Weigel Funeral Home,  309 4th Ave. SW, in Mandan.  A rosary and celebration of life prayer service will begin at 7 pm.  Visitation will also be held Tuesday, one hour prior to the church mass in Carson.

Doris was born on Aug. 26, 1949, to Leo and Verna (Fergel) Bachmeier.  She was raised on the family farm near Brisbane, ND.  She graduated from St. Gertrude’s High School.  Her career as a nurse began after completing her LPN Nursing Degree from Dickinson State.

On a hot and humid day, July 29, 1972, Doris married Paul Hartman at St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church.  Together they raised two sons, Darrell and Jason.

Doris was a dedicated mother and loving grandmother to her 3 blondies (Her granddaughters, Hayli, McKenzie and Cassy).  She loved her time as a nurse in the maternity ward, labor and delivery and Mom / Baby departments of the hospital.  Her 43-year career in nursing included employment in Sidney, MT, Dickinson, ND, Elgin, ND and Bismarck, ND.  Doris was a night owl and loved to work the nightshift at the hospital.  Numerous moms and children across ND remember Doris while she was babysitting or assisting them with their deliveries and care of their newborn babies.

Faith, helpfulness, cheerful smiles and putting other’s needs before her own are a few of her admirable traits.  She was a strong woman and displayed courage and perseverance through family medical situations and life’s daily challenges.   Doris baked more cookies and donuts than one family or group of coworkers could consume.

Doris will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by her husband of 49 years, Paul;  son, Darrell of Carson, along with her three granddaughters, Hayli, McKenzie and Cassy;  her sister, Janice (Joe) Fleck, AZ;  brothers, Leo (Shirley) Bachmeier, ND, Gerald (Willette) Bachmeier, ND, Kevin (Theresa) Bachmeier, MN;  In-Laws, Ann Marie Reisenauer, ND, Diane Hartman, ND, Pauline Hartman, ND and Casper (Melodie) Hartman, ND, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her son, Jason in 2013; her parents, her in-laws, sister-in-law, Emma Hartman; and brothers-in-law, Joe Hartman, Jake Hartman and Nick Reisenauer.

In lieu of flowers, Doris requested donations be sent to the Cystic Fibrosis Association of ND, Bismarck, ND – www.cfand.org
