Joan Degenstein Flower Pictures

Joan Degenstein, 88, Minot, formerly of Garrison and Bergen, ND, died Tuesday, April 19, 2022 in a Minot Hospital.

Joan was born December 2, 1933, at Coleharbor, ND, the daughter of Jacob and Martha (Mehlhoff) Mittleider. She moved with her family to Garrison, where she attended schools until the family moved to Bergen. She graduated from Bergen High School in 1951. The family moved to Ellendale, where Joan was employed with Redlin Implement for a year. She also worked in California for a year and later with Bridgeman Creamery in Minot.

Joan was united in marriage to Bennie Degenstein on November 21, 1955 in Minot. They made their home in Minot, where along with raising their four children, she was employed as a secretary at First Baptist Church for several years.

Joan was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, where she was active with the Women’s Ministry, Care Groups, XYZ Senior group, and the White Cross Circle.

Joan enjoyed reading, doing crafts, traveling, and gardening, especially tending to her flowers. She and Bennie had traveled during the winter months to Arizona since 1991.

Her loving family includes, husband of 66 years, Bennie, children, Jeanne (William) Kime, Peoria, AZ, Kevin (Rebecca) Degenstein, Great Falls, MT, Curtis (Janet) Degenstein, Minot and Joette Heath, Minot; grandchildren Katherine (Zech) Giles of Arizona, Michael (Tessa) Degenstein of Michigan, Elizabeth (Joseph) Boone of Montana, Jacob Degenstein of Montana, Vanessa (Cody) Bruns of Minot, ND and Timothy Heath of Minot; great-grandchildren Rylee Herrell, Allyson Herrell, Matthew Giles, Anna Degenstein, Lily and Pearl Boone, Haidyn Heath and Logan Hoffman; siblings Evangeline Stuber, LaCrescenta, CA, Moranda “Randy” Johnson, Harvey, ND, and Arlo Mittleider, Page, ND; sister-in-law Eva Mittleider, Ellendale, ND and along with lots of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, Lillian West, Bernice Steinwand, and Eleanor Meyer and brother Arvid Mittleider.

Celebration of Life service: 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at First Baptist Church, Minot. To view a livestream of the service access https://fbcminot.org/live-stream
Interment: Veterans Section of Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Monday, April 25, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials: preferred to Samaritan’s Purse.
