Twila Gaye Grunseth, 76, Mandan, passed away peacefully at the Missouri Slope Nursing home on April 23, 2022, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Twila was born May 5, 1945, in Rolette, ND to Alva (Sabby) and Lars Gilje. She was raised and educated in Rolette. She found a love for cheerleading and was also crowned Homecoming Queen in 1963. She graduated from Rolette High School in 1963. Twila then went to North Dakota State University to pursue her degree in teaching, graduating in 1967. She started her career at Northwood as the Home Economics teacher and also taught in Mandan. Later, Twila worked as the bookkeeper for Dr. Lengowski, Dr. Grunseth and Dr. Malaktaris at Dental Associates in Mandan.

Twila was united in marriage to John Grunseth on July 12, 1975. They made their home in Mandan. She took great pride in every detail of their home and her garden. It was a very special place to Twila. Her favorite time was the 4th of July. It was Twila and John’s time to celebrate large family gatherings. She loved her family deeply. Her nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews brought her so much joy. She was extremely proud of each and every one of them.

Twila was a member of First Lutheran Church, Mandan. Every Thanksgiving Twila and John would decorate the Church for Christmas. She spent countless hours perfecting each and every detail. She was also a longtime member of PEO.

Twila’s loving family includes her husband, John Grunseth; siblings, Dwight Gilje of Rolette, Myrna (Terry) Burud of Minot, and Naomi (Bill) Bingham of Meridian Idaho; sister-in-law, Jane Lillestrand of Highland, California; nephews, Brent (Jan), Brad (Charlsie), Jim (Melissa), Judd (Amy), Adam (Kortney), Quinn (Kaylan) and Eric; Nieces, Anne-Marie (Wylie), Sara (Larry), Carrie (Richard), Stacy and many great nieces and nephews.

Twila was preceded in death by her parents, mother-in-law Elida and father-in-law Hans.

Service to Celebrate Twila’s Life: 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2022 at First Lutheran Church, 408 9th St. NW, Mandan, ND.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Mandan.
Graveside Service: 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2022 at the ND Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
