Genevieve (Jenny) Nerby, 94, Bismarck, North Dakota, passed away at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center on March 24, 2022. She was surrounded in her final days by her family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 PM Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Bismarck Funeral Home in Bismarck, ND.  A livestream of the service will be available on the Bismarck Funeral Home Facebook page. A private burial will be at a later date at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, rural Robinson, ND.

Genevieve was born on September 12, 1927 to Emil C. and Jennie (Molob) Dehne in Kidder County, North Dakota.  She grew up and attended a country school near Robinson, ND. She married Harold Nerby on November 16, 1947 at Fessenden, ND and settled in Robinson, ND.  They had 8 children and lived in various areas in North Dakota.  Her favorite place to live was in rural Horace on a 10 acre farm where the kids learned about country life. Together they taught their children to work as a team, leading by example.

Genevieve was a stay-at-home mom and enjoyed raising her children. When the youngest started school and joined her siblings in the Kindred School District, she began to work outside of the home at Holiday Inn in Moorhead, MN, American Linen in Fargo, ND and retiring in 1990 from General Nutrition, Fargo, ND.

Genevieve’s hobbies were embroidering, reading, camping, fishing with Harold and helping him with his projects (for one, canning the garden stuff he grew). She loved it when family and friends came to visit. Her greatest joy was having all the family together every year for a family reunion which will be 35 years in 2022.

Genevieve was a beloved wife, mother, grandma, sister, and friend. Her favorite role was being a mom. Family was always her number one priority. She was welcoming, a good listener, beautiful, sweet, kind, and blessed.

She is survived by two sons, Gene (Mary), Riverdale, ND, and Vernon, Fargo, ND; four daughters, Marlene (Bruce) Knopp, Moorhead, MN, Dianna (Mike) Anderson, Riverdale, ND, Marie (Bryce) Andersen, Bismarck, ND and Ruth (Larry) Berg, West Fargo, ND; nine grandchildren and one step-grandchild; 16 great grandchildren and 5 step-great grandchildren; two brothers, Derril (Anne), Vero Beach, FL, Marvin (Phyllis), Tuttle, ND; one sister, Edith Otto, Mandan, ND; one brother-in-law, Marvin (Gail) Nerby, sisters-in-law, Peggy Dehne, Columbia, AL, Elsa Nerby, Sabin, MN, and Arlene Dewald, Steele, ND, as well as, many nieces and nephews.

Genevieve was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years; two sons, Floyd and Darrell; her parents; three brothers, Dale, Gordon and Emil (Gene) Jr.; two sisters, Irene and Amanda.

Cremation has taken place and memorials can be sent to the Bismarck Cancer Center or the Heart & Lung Clinic affiliated with CHI St. Alexius in Bismarck.

Genevieve will be forever missed and forever in our hearts.
