Shirley Zacher, 83, Bismarck, was called home to our Lord on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at Edgewood Vista, Mandan. A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 20 at First Baptist Church, 306 E. Divide Ave., Bismarck, with Rev. Preston VanLoon officiating. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A service livestream will be available on the funeral home’s website, listed below.
A private family burial will be held at a later date.
Shirley Marie Thompson was born on December 11, 1937, in Brinsmade to Sanford and Mabel (Ness) Thompson. She attended school in Brinsmade, graduated from Leeds High School in 1956 and later obtained an associate degree from Bismarck Junior College. She worked for many years at the JCPenney District office in Bismarck. She also worked for Liechty Mobile Homes and Burleigh County Human Service Center. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Bismarck; Minnewaukan Homemakers Club; American Legion Auxiliary; and the ND Army National Guard 957th Engineer Company Family Support Group.
Shirley was a highly organized person who spent countless hours going through pictures, newspaper clippings and all sorts of papers that she had collected over the years. She enjoyed hosting dinners and always looked forward to coffee and cookies with her dear friends. Shirley was an immensely proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Shirley is survived by her daughters, Kathy (Steve) Finneman, Missoula, Mont., Robin (Ron) Munsch, Riverdale, Deb (Craig) Smith, Mandan, and Laurie Zacher, Bismarck; grandchildren, Sara (Court) Wallace, Ben (Jaime) Haagenson, Leah (Adam) Heil, Tara Helm and Erika Helm; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Abby Wallace, Izabella, Ethan and Maddie Haagenson, Nate and Max Heil, Kane Whitworth, Kamrin and Kiptyn Wangler, Kailey and Braden Tschaekofske, and Liam and Ezra Guthmiller; and cousin, Garry Thompson, who she fondly referred to as her double cousin brother.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
