Robert Carlson, 77, passed away, surrounded by his friends, in Bismarck on March 12, 2022.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 17 at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E. Divide Ave, Bismarck. Family will begin to greet guests beginning at 2 p.m.

Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 18 at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Robert was born on August 29, 1944. He began serving in the U.S. Army in 1965 and was honorably discharged in 1967.

He worked at Welh Steel in Mandan as a welder and painted water towers. He was part of the project that built the power plant and the one that tore it down. As a union painter, he travelled across the country and worked in, Wyoming, California, Texas, Nevada and Arizona. He eventually retired from the Melroe Company.

A proud achievement of Robert’s was inventing the Super Ax Log Splitter & Root Cutter. He was a horseback riding member of the U.S. Marshal Posse and always enjoyed picking on and joking around with his friends. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and riding his trike.

Robert will be missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Carlson; mother, Aillys Carlson; brothers, David Carlson, and son, Ben Carlson.
