Hal Conrad Sathre peacefully passed away Friday, March 4, 2022, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, with family by his side. Hal was 64.
Hal was born on August 19, 1957, in Bismarck to Helmer C. and Evelyn (Skogen) Sathre. He was raised on the family farm north of Tuttle. He was baptized and confirmed at the Tuttle English Lutheran Church. Hal played on the Tuttle High School basketball team and was a member of the high school band. He graduated from Tuttle High School in 1975. He then attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton and completed the Ag Equipment Maintenance Course. At that time, he returned to the farm and spent the rest of his years farming and ranching.
Hal married Lori Engelhard on October 16, 1981, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Bismarck. This past October they celebrated 40 years of marriage. They were blessed with two children.
Throughout the years Hal served on the Tuttle Community Store Board, Kidder County Farm Bureau Board, Tuttle Farmers Elevator Board, and Tuttle Firemen’s Board.
During his younger years, he was in a bowling league. Hal was dedicated to working the land and raising cattle; he especially enjoyed the calving season. He spent his life doing what he loved most. Hal especially enjoyed working side-by-side with his son, Adam. During calving, you could find Hal and his daughter, Sara, bottle-feeding calves. He also had a special bond with his “grand-puppy”, Millie.
In 2016, Hal was given a second chance at life and received a heart transplant. Because of this wonderful gift of life from the donor, we were given an additional five and half years with Hal.
He is survived by his wife, Lori of Tuttle; son, Adam of Tuttle; daughter, Sara of Ashley, ND; three sisters, Margot (Toney) Manley, Sharol Felch, and Lonna (Dennis) Meier; father-in-law, Orvin Engelhard; two sisters-in-law, Kathy (Greg) Hoovestol, Deborah (Lynn) Best; three brothers-in-law, Clois Hetletved, Jr., Dennis (Katie) Leno, Brian (Caroline) Engelhard; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Hal was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Eva Lynne “Susie” Leno and Helen Hetletved; mother-in-law, Bernadette Engelhard; and brother-in-law, Darwin Felch.
The family would like to thank all the members of the transplant medical team Hal had at Mayo; especially the Mary Brigh 6D nurses at St. Mary’s Hospital. Through their dedication, they provided exceptional care and compassion for Hal.
