Genoveive “Gen” Catherine Hall, 96, longtime Berthold area resident, died Monday, February 21, 2022 in a Garrison Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

Gen was born December 17, 1925, in Berthold, North Dakota the daughter of Lester and Hildegard (Rubbelke) Lautenschlager. She was raised and educated in Berthold and graduated from Berthold High School in 1943.

Gen was united in marriage to Clarence Hall on May 20, 1948 in Berthold. Their first home was in Devils Lake until 1950. From there they moved to a farm west of Berthold for three years prior to moving into Berthold. Along with raising their children, she was employed as a bookkeeper with Farmer’s Union Oil Company (now Cenex) at Devils Lake and Berthold from 1943 until 1992, when she retired. Clarence died January 22, 2012. She continued to make her home in Berthold until moving to Edgewood Vista in 2015 and then to Maple View Assisted Living Center in 2018. She had most recently been a resident of the Benedictine Living Center of Garrison.

Gen was a longtime member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Berthold, where she served as the church organist and church bookkeeper for more than 60 years. She also served as Berthold City Auditor for many years.

Gen was a member of the Berthold American Legion Auxiliary and Progressive Homemakers Club in Berthold. Gen served on numerous community committees and was always willing to help where needed.

Gen enjoyed quilting, gardening, golfing, traveling with Clarence and family, attending any activities that children and grandchildren were participating in, and spending time with her family. Gen and Clarence put on countless miles attending such events and loved every minute of it!

Her loving family includes, children, Curtis (Leann) Hall, Berthold, Bernard (Mary) Hall, Harvey, Doug (Marcia) Hall, Mesa,AZ, LeRoy (Shirley) Hall, Fairfax, VA, Margaret (Ken) Dahl, Grand Forks, Susan (Jeff) Hagel, Minot, Francis (Brenda) Hall, Mohall, Steven (Pam) Hall, Kindred, Jim (Kim) Hall, Gainesville, VA, Sharon (Tyler) Mollerud, Berthold, Roberta (John) Aarfor, West Fargo, Raymond (Karene) Hall, Center; 51 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; siblings, Eugene Lautenschlager, Grand Forks, (Fay) Lautenschlager, Berthold, Lyle (Karen) Lautenschlager, Magnolia, Texas, Thomas (Joanne) Lautenschlager, Minot, Eileen Anderson, Floral City, FL, Doris Goettle, Donnybrook, Danny (Jeanie) Lautenschlager, Fargo, and Daryl (Peggy) Lautenschlager, Byron, MN; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gen was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 63 years, Clarence; daughter, Barbara; great granddaughter, Emily; brothers, Lester & Timothy; along with her brothers-in-law, Andy Anderson and Jim Goettle, and sister-in-law, Sally Lautenschlager.

Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. in St Ann’s Catholic Church, Berthold. A delayed streaming of the service will be available Sunday, February 27, 2022 and can be accessed at https://www.mtmsales.net/thomas
Interment: Wildrose Cemetery, Berthold later in the Spring of 2022.
Recitation of the Rosary and Vigil Prayer service: Friday, February 25, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. in the church.
Visitation: Friday, February 25th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. in the church.
