Heaven gained a special angel when our beloved mother, Elsie Seiler, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2022, at the age of 95.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at 1:00 pm at Pro-Cathedral of St. Mary with Rev. Jared Johnson officiating. Cremation has taken place. Family will be receiving visitors Wednesday, February 23 at the Bismarck Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, with a rosary at 7:00 pm.
Elsie was born October 31, 1926, in Zeeland, ND, to Anton and Eva (Salwei) Jund. She was raised and educated in Zeeland and graduated high school in 1944. Growing up in Zeeland, she found a love for music from her father and uncles who performed as, ‘The Jund Brothers Orchestra‘. As young girls, she and her sisters, Cecelia and Frances, spent time singing and performing with them for many local town dances.
She taught country school for two years until she married Michael “Mike” Seiler on January 21, 1947. They began their life together on a small farm near Zeeland and after four years together, they moved their growing family to Bismarck, ND. Throughout their loving, 45-year marriage, they were blessed with seven children. Upon moving to Bismarck, Elsie and Mike worked together at Mid Dakota Clinic for over 30 years. During this time, she also babysat for relatives and friends’ children ranging in age from newborn through school-age.
Elsie was a loving and devoted mother who was happiest when caring for her husband and family. Once her eight grandchildren began to join the family, she was excited to shower each of them with unconditional love and adoration. She enriched their lives and helped make their childhoods truly magical and memorable. Elsie was an excellent cook and baker. She loved time spent in the kitchen with her sisters, daughters, and granddaughters. She had an exceptional green thumb and kept a large, bountiful garden. Each year, she enjoyed working with her sisters to can and preserve the vegetables she grew. Elsie was known for her beautiful smile, twinkling blue eyes, her strong faith, and her endless love of family.
She will be missed for her sweet smile and quiet demeanor by her children, Charles (Karrie) Seiler, Duane (Kelly) Seiler, Caroline (Steve) Hermanson, Joanne (Steve) Loeppke, Marlene Seiler, Brian Seiler, and Dennis (Laura) Seiler; grandchildren, Allison (Tim) Poff, Mike (Michele) Seiler, Tom Seiler, Kelly Hermanson (Shane), Andy Hermanson, Matthew (Brita) Loeppke, Chris Loeppke (Katy), Kelsie (Montana) Howes, and ‘bonus’ grandchild, Holly (Luke) Petrich; great-grandchildren Seiler, Ethan, Sawyer, and Anna; brother Ray Jund; sisters Mary (Emil) Haman, Donna Senftner; sister-in-law Kay Jund, and many nieces and nephews.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents and second mother Erna Jund; her loving husband Mike; sisters Cecelia (Sebastian) Wald, and Frances (Arnold) Schmitt; brothers Robert (Dorothy), and Tom Jund; sister-in-law Lorraine Jund; and brother-in-law Dick Senftner. We thank our heavenly Father for the gift of this dear woman who touched so many and has finally been reunited with her beloved husband. We would like to express a special thanks to the many caregivers who provided excellent care for Elsie for the last eight years during her battle with Alzheimer’s.
