Anna Hatzenbuhler, 91, went to her Heavenly home on Sunday, February 20, 2022 after a short stay at Edgewood Vista in Mandan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, February 25, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mandan. Burial will follow at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

Anna was born in Bismarck, ND on July 11, 1930, to Steven and Catherine (Thomas) Haider.

She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Matt Hatzenbuhler, on June 19, 1951, in St. John’s Church at Odense, ND.

In addition to being a wonderful wife, “Dad’s Momsie”, she was also a full-time mom. Having brought seven children into the world, she was always busy making sure that they had good food to eat and clean clothes to wear.

Mom loved to paint the farm buildings, and as a result, they received numerous coats of red, white, and blue paint.

She planted many flowers over the years; one of her favorites being gladiolus, which she used in her bouquets that she took to the Solen church.

Although, mom and dad moved to Mandan in 2000, mom’s heart remained with “The Little Blue House on the Prairie”.  She often referred to her life on the farm and often asked, “Are we going home now?”

Along with other pastimes such as playing cards and embroidering, mom loved to listen to polka music. She could often be found downstairs dancing to her old-time records; but, in her later years, nothing made mom happier than when Jane pulled out the accordion and played her favorite songs.

Mom will be deeply missed, by her husband of 70 years, Matt; daughters, Marlene (Dennis) Bender, Mandan, Lorraine Berger (Merle Vandeberg), Mandan, Judy Staley (Doug Baldacci), Virginia, Jane (John) Reede, Bismarck, Annette Hausauer, Mandan; sons, Larry (Mary), Bismarck, Jeff (Tara), Mandan; brothers, Leonard (Lenora), Bob (Sharon); sister-in-law, Judy Haider, all of Mandan; 18 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Cassie Shaw-Hatzenbuhler; son-in-law, Quinten Hausauer; sisters and brothers-in-law, Florence (Joe) Hatzenbuhler, Cathy (Nolan Axford and Marvin) Kramer; brothers and sister-in-law, John, Raymond (Geraldine) Haider; and niece, Becky Fitchner.

We wish to thank the staff at Edgewood Vista, Mandan, and mom’s hospice team for the wonderful care they provided our mother.
