Valoie “Val” Olson

The family of Valoie ‘Val’ Olson announce her passing on February 7th, 2022. Val passed peacefully in her sleep at home. Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday at 11 a.m., February 12th, 2022, at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, 519 Raymond St., Bismarck.  A service livestream will be available at https://venue.streamspot.com/event/MzA1NjY1OA==

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Friday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, followed by the Rosary & Vigil service. at 7 p.m. and visitation will continue one hour prior to the service.

Internment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck.

Val was born on August 4th, 1942, the daughter of Nore and Nellie (Moore) Johnson in Minot, ND. She was raised on the family farm in Mountrail County, educated in Palermo, ND, and was class Valedictorian of 1960.

She married the love of her life, Arthur ‘Art’ Olson, and they spent 61 and a half years together, in partnership, encouraging one another and sharing life’s journeys. Travel was important to both Val and Art and they vacationed to Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England, Norway, Sweden, pilgrimages to Medjugorje in Croatia and the Holy Land, and 44 of the 50 States.

She worked for the phone company for 30+ years where she made many lifelong friends who shared her good sense of humor. She was active in Catholic Daughters and enjoyed playing cards with the Good Neighbor Club. She enjoyed gardening and cheering on the accomplishments of her grandchildren.

 Surviving family includes husband, Art Olson; son, Darcy Olson; daughter, Eunice Olson; grandson’s, Isaac and Neil Olson; granddaughter, Karensa (August) Short and great-grandson’s, Augustus and Westley Short.  

Val was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Andy and Neil Johnson; and sister, Clione.

In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are preferred to Gods Child Project, godschild.org.
