Ruby Rose was born January 16, 1944, to Walter and Lydia (Munsch) Weisz, in Linton. She grew up on the family farm with her 6 siblings: John, Jack, Mary, Frances, Johanna, and Helen.
On June 17, 1961 Ruby married Albert Marquart. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with their beloved family and friends. Born to this union were Anna, Arnold, Theresa, and Rita.
Ruby took great pride in keeping her home running smooth and keeping it immaculate. She was an amazing cook and baker. She always provided her family with delicious hot meals and desserts. Her home was always open for friends new and old, neighbors, and relatives. She cherished having gatherings, small and large, for coffee, meals, conversation, playing cards and board games. Everyone loved her fleischkuekle, kuchen, divinity, and almond roca. Her special traits will be missed, she loved to sew her yearly sequence calendars and give them out for Christmas gifts.
Ruby had a love for adventure and traveling, she made it a point to take her children on many adventures across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Always by car and always camping. She became proficient in planning trips, packing it all up, and cooking for long vacations in the pop-up camper. Once, while cooking her famous campers chili she was confronted by a bear, so she just swatted and chased it with her spatula.
Ruby and Albert traveled all over the United States from coast to coast, reveling in the great beauty of this country. She was also able to visit Hawaii, Alaska, and Australia. Her most cherished and favorite trips were Alaska; the east coast in the fall; the DC spring cherry blossoms; the hot air balloon festival in New Mexico; the great music and festivities in Branson, and Medora.
Ruby worked for Cathedral school and the University of Mary as a cook. While at the University of Mary, she often opened her home to students that were far from their homes, for her amazing holiday meals. Ruby made many life long and dear friends through her work.
