Obituary

Dean Blotsky, 54, Mandan, died December 31, 2021, at a Bismarck hospital surrounded by family.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with Pastor Phil Leer officiating. Cremation has taken place and visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 4 from 5-6 PM with a Prayer Service at 6 PM at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home in Mandan. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.  The service will be live streamed at the bottom of Dean’s obituary page on this website.

Dean was born March 15, 1967, in Mandan to Raymond and Alvina (Dorscher) Blotsky.  Raised and educated in Mandan, Dean graduated from Mandan High School in 1985.  While in high school, he worked at Hardees in Mandan where he met Marcy Schmidt.  They were married on May 9, 1992, in Mandan where they made their home and raised their two children, Whitney and Hayden.  Dean graduated from the University of Mary with degrees in elementary and special education.  He spent his career teaching sixth grade in Mandan.  He had a special passion for history.  Dean enjoyed metal detecting, camping, bingo, pool, and doing word searches.  Dean was a diehard Green Bay Packers fan.  He watched every game and was proud to have an ownership stake in the team.

Blessed to have shared in his life is his wife of 30 years, Marcy Blotsky; children, Whitney (Zach) Serr and Hayden Blotsky; granddaughter, Lilian Serr; siblings, Brian (Michelle) Blotsky, Curtis Blotsky, and Gail Love; mother-in-law, Cheryllyn Schmidt; sister-in-law, Jessica Schmidt; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Alvina Blotsky; father-in-law, Donald Schmidt; and brother-in-law, Dean Schmidt.
