Luella was called home to Heaven to spend eternity with the Lord, on Saturday, December 11, 2021. She passed away at Sanford Health in Bismarck, ND with family by her side.

Luella was born June 23, 1939 in rural Lefor, ND, to Joe and Kathryn “Katie” (Rech) Klemm. Luella graduated from Dickinson Central High School, in 1957. After graduation, she attended Dickinson State College in Dickinson, ND for a year or so, worked for a while as a switchboard operator at St. Joseph’s Hospital, and also worked in the campus library. Meanwhile, she met her sweetheart, Richard N. Fichter, through mutual friends, and they got married on June 16, 1959 at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Lefor, ND. They raised their son Alvin and their daughter Gloria and lived the duration of their married life on Richard’s family farm North of Taylor, which they eventually purchased from them. Around 1998, Richard and Luella moved to a house in Dickinson and then later both moved into Evergreen Assisted Living where they both had the privilege to call home for the past 9 years.

Throughout her life, she loved playing the accordion and enjoyed entertaining at different events and celebrations starting at a young age. Anyone who heard her play knew she truly had a talent like no other, and they couldn’t stop their feet from tapping while listening to her. Her most recent favorite pastimes were playing bingo, playing cards with family and friends, and working on her puzzle books. She especially enjoyed watching her grandson, Damon, as he took the stage performing as one of the Burning Hills Singers at the Medora Musical, where he has performed 5 seasons thus far. She also looked forward to hearing what songs he would write, sing and play next.

The highlight of Luella’s life was being able to spend time with her family and friends whom she loved with all her heart. Her “everything is fine” mantra and sweet, loving personality will stay with us in our hearts forever. She was so very proud of her children and grandson, and loved hearing all about her extended family of step-grandkids and great-grandkids, getting to see them occasionally, and seeing pictures of them growing up and enjoying life.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to the Evergreen staff/family, we can’t thank you enough for all you have done, and to the wonderful staff at CHI St. Alexius in Dickinson, Sanford Health Dickinson Clinic staff, and Sanford Health Bismarck clinic and hospital staff.

Luella is survived by her husband of 62 years, Richard N. Fichter, Dickinson, ND; her son, Alvin Fichter, Gladstone, ND; daughter Gloria (Wayne) Fichter-Rau, Dickinson, ND; grandson Damon Fichter, Nashville, TN; 3 step-grandchildren; 6 step-great grandchildren; sisters Eileen Muecke, Dickinson, and Hedy Dassinger, Dickinson; brothers Gene (Carol) Klemm, Dickinson, Ron (Diana) Klemm, Dickinson; and sister-in-law, Linda Klemm, Laguna Hills, CA.
