Julie Lee, 98, Rochester, MN, formerly of Minot and Bottineau, ND, died on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at St Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, MN.

Juliet Luella Berge was born on June 20, 1923 to Gustav and Anna (Hoibrenden) Berge. Julie was born and raised on the family homestead near Souris, ND, along with eight other siblings including Jo, her twin sister. She was confirmed at Turtle Mountain Church and graduated from Souris High School in 1942.

Julie was married to Kenneth William “Bill” Vinje on August 22, 1948 and they made their home in Bottineau, ND. They were blessed with two children before, tragically, Bill died of polio in 1952. Years later, on July 13, 1957, Julie was married to Wardell Lee and moved to Minot, ND. They were blessed with a daughter. Julie has been a long-time member of First Lutheran Church in Minot, where she was a volunteer and member of a church circle.

For 42 years, Julie was employed as an Avon sales representative. Being one of the top representatives in the state, she won many awards including numerous trips to Hawaii, Washington, DC, and New York during the bicentennial and many others. She enjoyed her work and many of her customers became her good friends. Staying fit and active was important to Julie. She was involved with a senior exercise group in Minot, throughout her 70’s and 80’s, that met three days a week and even traveled together to competitions. Julie also loved flowers and grew tea roses in her garden. All summer long her table and those of her friends and family were adorned with beautiful bouquets.

Most important in Julie’s life was always family. She loved her large group of siblings and all their frequent get togethers were highlights in her life. No one could ask for a better mother or grandmother. Somehow, wherever she was felt like home. She enveloped her family with unconditional love and caring and was equally loved in return. Proverbs 31:28 “Her children rise up and call her blessed”.

Among the many people who will greatly miss Julie include her children:  Pat (Larry) Piepho of Rochester, MN, Bill Vinje of Minot, ND, and Paula (Tim) Peters of Rochester, MN; grandchildren: Christopher (Andrea) Piepho of Edina, MN, Jonathan (Janice) Piepho of St Louis Park, MN, Brett Peters and Danielle Peters of Rochester, MN, Christie (Jeff) Will of Elko New Market, MN, Ashley (Lucas) Bakken of Manhattan, KS; great grandchildren; Cora and Henry Piepho of Edina, MN, Ian Reuland of St. Louis Park, MN, Emmy and Parker Will of Elko New Market, MN, Ryder, Callan and Aiden Bakken of Manhattan, KS; sister; Helen Woods of Portland, OR; sisters in law: Arlene Berge of Bottineau, ND and Delores Berge of Mandan, ND; as well as many nieces and nephews.
