Priscilla ‘Joyce’ Herda, 89, Minot, died Monday, November 22, 2021, in a Minot assisted living center.

Joyce was born February 26, 1932, in Temple, Michigan to Alfred and Anna (Earl) David. She was raised and educated in Temple in her youth and moved to California as a young adult, working a variety of jobs.

Joyce was united in marriage to James Herda on February 17, 1962, in Newhall, CA. They followed her husbands work back home to Michigan, living in Flint until moving to the prairies of North Dakota in 1964. They moved to the ‘Magic City’ of Minot in 1973.

Following her roles as a wife, mother and grandmother, Joyce worked as a merchandiser for K-Mart for nearly a decade retiring in 1995. Joyce embraced the role of caregiver to her husband as his health failed until his passing April 5, 2012. She moved to Edgewood Vista later that year.

Joyce was a Graduate Regent of the Loyal Order of Moose in Reseda, California and a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Minot. She attended Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Brethren Church in Minot. Joyce was often found with a word puzzle or book in her hand with music playing in the background. Time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren were some of her best times.

Joyce’s family is very grateful for the special care she received from the staff and caregivers of Edgewood Vista and Caring Edge Hospice during her transition into eternal life.

Joyce is survived by her daughters Catherine (Harry) Moses, Las Vegas, NV and Debra (Emmett) Hoffner, Clarissa, MN; daughter-in-law Pam Schrader, Minot; fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; sister Loretta Britton, Harrison, MI; sister-in-law Joan Babinski, Rosalie Wisbrod and Maria Herda along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, husband James, son Alan Schrader, grandson Adam, great-grandson Wyatt, sisters, Luella, Violet, Percile, Wandeda and Lillian and a number of in-laws.
