John A. Schwengler, Bismarck, passed away November 16, 2021, at the age of 78.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, November 22, 2021, at Pro-Cathedral of St. Mary, 806 E Broadway Ave, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM, Sunday, November 21, 2021, at Bismarck Funeral Home, Bismarck where a vigil/rosary service will begin at 5:00 PM.

Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Lunch to follow at 1:00 PM at the Bismarck Amvets Club, 2402 Railroad Ave, Bismarck.

John was born July 24, 1943, in Napoleon, ND to Paul and Elizabeth (Gardner) Schwengler.

He enlisted in the US Army from 1961-1963 and was stationed in Korea.

John and Iileen (Becker) were united in marriage February 8, 1964. Soon after their marriage a daughter, Tina was born and son, John Jason followed.

He was employed with Northern Improvement retiring in 2007.

John enjoyed playing pinochle, shooting pool, dancing and many vacations traveling the U.S. His most important hobbies included fishing, gardening and he will always be remembered for his famous homemade pickles, horseradish, and jerky.

John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Iileen; daughter, Tina; son, John Jason; grandsons, Joshua (Jessica) Kaiser, Jacob Kaiser, Justin (Lyna) Kaiser, and Walker Schwengler; granddaughter, Anessa Schwengler; great granddaughters, Vienna Mae and Isla Shay; sisters, Bonnie Kerzman and Patricia (Charles) Hale and his special nieces and nephews. John also cherished his many friendships.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Delores and nephew, Loren.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in John’s name to the Bismarck Senior Center or the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
