“Well done good and faithful servant” is the welcome Larry Evenson, 59, rural Coleharbor received when he passed away peacefully at his family farm with his wife and children at his side on November 9th, 2021. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor in September 2020. It was a challenge he faced with strength and acceptance as he was a man of faith, a faith that never wavered.
On November 21, 1961, a son was born to Gladys (Mitchell) and Donald Evenson. He joined a sister, Cindy, at the family farm. He graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1980 and attended BSC. Larry found treasure as a young man, working side by side as a fourth-generation small grain farmer with his father, Donald. Even as a young man, being a farmer was more than just a job, it’s who he was. Larry’s treasure only grew when the twinkle in his eye soon joined his life. He married his one and only love, Tammy Strobel, on July 29th, 1983, in Goodrich. Their love welcomed a daughter, Megan, and son, Eric. Larry was a loyal husband, father, friend, and proud grandpa. His family and friends were extremely important to him, and he was a man of his word. The words Larry spoke were always genuine and true!
“Get ‘er done,” “make hay when the sun shines,” and “looking out the combine window is better than watching TV” were just a few of the things he would often say. He truly enjoyed the outdoors and riding around with Tammy (always by his side), in their John Deere Gator looking at the crops. In his younger days, he enjoyed hunting and trapping.
In addition to farming, Larry was also a pilot, he flew for pleasure and worked as a crop duster. He served on the Turtle Lake Rural Fire Department Board and was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church.
Larry is survived by his wife, Tammy Evenson; daughter, Megan (Brian) Fettig; son, Eric Evenson; father, Donald Evenson; sister, Cindy (Larry) LaBere, granddaughter, Presley Fettig; and 5 nephews and 1 niece.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Evenson.
