She was born February 4, 1928 in McGregor to Oscar and Kalma Toso.  She grew up in the McGregor area and attended elementary school there.  She and her sisters each had monikers: Claire, The Quiet One; Lillie, The Lady; Iola, The Smart One AND then there was Corinne…no moniker needed.  “The Lady” is an accurate moniker; she didn’t even have to try. Their family then moved to Noonan in 1936 where she continued her education and graduated from Noonan High School in 1945.

She got engaged via an overseas surprise telephone call from Lyle in 1944.  She was called away from class by none other than “The Principal” who stood close by and listened to her side of the conversation. She was very embarrassed, however, she accepted and married Lyle Huwe in Plentywood, Montana, September 18, 1946.  This was only her first adventure with Lyle.  They enjoyed 75 years of happiness and many more adventures until his passing in September 2020.

They made their home in Noonan and reared three children, Jerry, Debbie and Jeff.  She served as Den Mother for the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.  She also worked at the drug store/soda fountain and the grocery store.  They then ventured on to reside in Center, where Lyle convinced her to learn to ride horses and go on Badlands Trail Rides.  Well, some horses can be a bit ornery and she had one that caused her a broken leg but she recovered and went on many more trail rides.  They enjoyed many years there with many grandchildren visits where Lillie spent time reading to them, showing them her beautiful gardens, cooking delicious meals and using her amazing seamstress skills to make them clothes.

When Lyle retired in 1987, they were ready for a new adventure and moved to Colorado.  They bought an RV and headed south to find a new home in Grand Junction where they lived for 10 years and Lillie had her first office job working at Sears.  She enjoyed the new job and playing pinochle with friends.

Their next adventure was to Farmington, New Mexico, to be closer to their sons and families and made many happy memories.  Lillie loved her new home and dubbed it her “dream home.”  More pinochle card games were played with family and new friends at the Bonnie Dallas Senior Center.

In 2006, they moved to Bismarck to be with their daughter, grandchildren and their families.  She enjoyed decorating their new home and gardening.  She spent a lot of time with the grandchildren and great grandchildren and looked forward to their visits, stories and antics.

She is survived by two sons, Jerry (Di) and Jeff (Michelle); daughter, Debby (Cory) Mills; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
