Doyle Nygaard, 71, passed away Sunday, Oct. 3, 2021. Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8 at Evangel East Auditorium, formerly known as the Element, 3220 N 19th St., Bismarck.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday at the Evangel East Auditorium, Bismarck.
Burial will be held at Mandan Union Cemetery, Mandan.
Doyle was born on August 24, 1950, to Verlin and Joan (Anderson) Nygaard. Doyle was raised and educated in Mandan, graduating in 1969. During high school, he started playing varsity basketball his freshman year and continued playing on varsity throughout his senior year.
In 1971 Doyle married his high school sweetheart, Sandra Lee Stull at Evangel Assembly in Bismarck.
He was very active in local sports, coaching basketball and umping for softball. Doyle retired after 30 years of faithful service from the Bismarck Public School system. Doyle had a special connection working with special education kids from his school bus.
Doyle enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings and Twins with his best friend and wife of 50 years, Sandra. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and listening to southern gospel music.
There wasn’t a person that Doyle couldn’t touch with his smile and happy attitude that was especially appreciated by his special education kids from school.
Doyle is survived by his wife, Sandra; children, Brook (Chad) Spotts, Bismarck, Steve Nygaard, Bismarck, Justin Nygaard, Bismarck and Chasity Nygaard, Bismarck; grandchildren, Britlyn (Brandon Miller) Trom, Conner (Gena) Trom, Zachary (Hayley) Trom, Alexa Spotts, Madison Spotts, Kenna Iron Necklace, Rylan Maus and Grayson Meyhoff; great-grandchildren, Reagan Fried and Jaxon Miller; siblings, Dione (Ron) Clagg, Idaho, Jeff (Trella) Nygaard, Bismarck, Pam Schwede, Bismarck, Mike (Elana) Nygaard, Bismarck, Sharla (Robb) Dale, Ohio, LaShawn (Scott) Cooley, Michigan and DeAnn (Tony) Cooley; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Mark Schwede; niece, Krista Wilson; great-nieces, Zoe Schwede and Larissa Cooley; and great-nephew, Maddox Dale.
