Visitation will also be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14 at Parkway Funeral Service, 2230 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck.

Harold was born on June 8, 1928, at the farm south of Pettibone to Cornelius and Winnie

DeKrey, the fourth of seven children.  He graduated from Pettibone High School in 1947.  That year he moved with his family to the present farm site north of Steele.  Harold was attached to the land his entire life.

Harold married Rachel Remmich in 1953 and they lived in the town of Steele until 1960 when they moved to the farm, where they resided until 2015.  He was an active member of the Steele United Methodist Church, weather recorder for the National Weather Service for ten years and one of the tireless workers at the Kidder County Museum.

After retirement the couple traveled with bus trips, an Alaskan cruise and a trip to Europe; usually part of a group hosted by  a retired pastor.

Harold and Rachel moved to the Primrose Retirement Community in Bismarck in October 2015 leaving behind their farm home of 47 years. Although it was a difficult move, they adjusted quickly into their new community making new friends and enjoying Primrose activities; and the family is grateful for the wonderful staff there.  After Rachel’s death in 2019, Harold moved to the Baptist Health Care Center.  Again, his family is grateful for the care and community they provided him.

Harold is survived by his two sons, Dan (Anne) DeKrey and Bruce (Jeanne) DeKrey; daughter, Jeanie (Scott) Hackey; grandchildren, Andrew DeKrey (fiancée, Carlee Willander) and Allison DeKrey; sisters, Eleanora Larson, Evelyn Remmich and Donna Else; brother Glen DeKrey; sisters-in-law Arlene Kirk, LoEtta Sellner and Eileen DeKrey; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers, Lester and Warren; and many brothers and sisters-in-law.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Steele United Methodist Church or the Woodlawn Cemetery.
