Obituary

Loretta Virginia Toman, 91, Mandan, died October 12, 2021.

A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with Greg Runyon officiating.  Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery. 

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Loretta was born June 22, 1930, to Ralph and Theresa (Lauinger) Berger.  She was spent her childhood and attended school in Sykeston, ND.  Later, the family moved to Mandan where Loretta met her husband, Albert Charles Toman Sr. of Mandan, and they were married on February 23, 1949, sharing 52 years together.

Loretta was known as a Domestic Engineer. She could do it all. She also made fantastic German dinners and desserts from recipes that were handed down from generation to generation. Everyone enjoyed her cherry dumplings. She made dozens and dozens of Christmas cookies of every sort, cheese kuchen, and little apple pies. They were the best! She also helped out in the family owned business, Royal Taylor and Cleaners in Mandan.

Loretta shared her life with her children, Bonnie Heck, Mandan, Mark Toman (Kenneth Wan), California, Connie (Allen) Knoll, Mandan, Albert Toman Jr., Mercer; 5 grandchildren, April Starkweather-Heck, Brittany (Ryan) Kuchenski, Dustin (Jessica) Knoll, Elisa (Ryan) Nelson, and David Knoll; 7 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

She also enjoyed spending time and going shopping with her sisters, Rosemary Berger and Frances Mae Berger, both of Mandan.

Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Theresa Berger; husband, Albert Toman Sr.; newborn daughter, Linda Lee Toman; son, Albert Toman Jr.; brother and sister-in-law, Anthony and Celeste Berger; sister, Viola Mossbarger; brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Betty Toman.

A special thank you to the staff of Augusta Place (Prospera), Bismarck, for the caring hearts you had toward my mom and her family. You are angels.
