Jason Storbeck, 45, Paola, KS, formerly of Minot, ND, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 3, 2021, surrounded by family.

Jason was born October 12, 1975, in Lakewood, CA., the son of Gary and Mary (Malley) Storbeck. Jason was raised in Minot, ND. He was active, early on, as a competitive swimmer and participated in basketball and football. In school, he played the saxophone and excelled in mathematics. In 1989, the family moved to Olathe, KS where Jason graduated from Olathe North High School in 1994.

Jason enjoyed outdoor activities, in particular walking shelterbelts in the fall for upland game (grouse/pheasant) and fishing (walleyes/northerns) on Lake Sakakawea. Then, spending evenings with family and friends around a campfire at the family’s lake home joking and sharing stories about the day’s adventures. Jason passed his love for lake life and fishing onto his sons.

Jason, a fourth-generation railroader, hired on to BNSF Railroad March 24, 1997, in Wenatchee, WA. Jason worked several scheduled (union) Signal construction and maintenance positions in Washington and Arizona. On July 1, 2009, Jason was promoted to an exempt (management) position in the Signal Engineering Office located in Kansas City, KS. As an exempt employee, Jason worked on the design and application of Highway/Rail Grade Crossing and Wayside Signal systems.  On 2012, Jason took a Supervisor Signal position in Paola, KS, the position he held upon his death. Jason’s employment with BNSF Railroad was more than a career, it was a passion. Jason was an accomplished Signalman, and as a leader, he understood and valued his employees and co-workers as his greatest asset.

On November 9, 1996, Jason was united in marriage to Elisa Sánchez Ascencio in Wenatchee, WA. They have two wonderful sons, Sergio (22) and Gary (10). Jason was a loving and devoted husband and father. His family was the center and joy of his life. Jason was proud of his sons and enjoyed and cherished the time he spent with them. Jason will be remembered for his quick wit, caring disposition, warm heart, and his steadfast faithfulness.

Jason is survived by his wife, Elisa (Sánchez Ascencio), Paola, KS, their two sons Sergio and Gary, his parents, Gary and Mary Storbeck, Garrison ND, his sister Annie (Rick) Garwood, Bismarck, ND, and numerous family and friends.

Celebration of the Life of Jason Storbeck:  11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot. To view a livestream of the service access www.bethanylutheran.tv
Interment:  Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Tuesday, October 12, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to an organization of the donor’s choice.
