James Goetz

A Liturgy of the Word service for James Goetz, 77, of Dickinson, will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 8, 2021 at Stevenson Funeral Home with Deacon Bob Stockert celebrating. Burial will take place in the St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation for James will be an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

James passed away October 3, 2021 at CHI St. Alexius Health, Bismarck.

James was born in Dickinson on August 12, 1944, the son of Carl H. and Eva (Kuhn) Goetz. He grew up on the family farm in Lefor and graduated from Lefor High School in 1963. After the death of his father in 1964, the family moved to Dickinson. Jim went to North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton where he received an Associate’s degree in Automotive Technology in May 1966. He returned home to Dickinson and in September he joined the National Guard in Hettinger and was later discharged in September 1972. Jim worked for Dvorak Motors, Stark Motors, and for the ND Department of Transportation from 1970-2006 as a fleet and equipment supervisor for the Dickinson district. He took an annual two week vacation to the West Coast for fifty years. He was a member of Slope area Rifle Club, Jaycee’s, NRA and enjoyed cars, metal detecting and his coffee group. Dickinson lost one of the best automotive repair man and car enthusiast.

Jim is survived by his sister, Karen (Nathan) Sorenson of Dickinson; nieces, Lorelle (Daryl) Tietz, Carrie (Mark) Lewellen, Mari (Gary) Ripp, Chelsea Sorenson, Rachel Sorenson; grandniece, Gina Tietz; grandnephew, James Tietz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl & Eva Goetz; sister, Ellen Goetz; brother, Carl (Linda) Goetz.
In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations be made to the Lefor Cemetery Board.
