Rory Shelkey, 44, Minot, formerly of Berthold, died Friday, September 24, 2021, in his home after a short battle with Influenza A.
Rory was born October 9, 1976, to Frank and Lila (Houle) Shelkey in Minot, ND. He was raised in Berthold, ND. Rory was one of three children born to his parents.
Rory was a gentle, loving soul. He was the kind of friend everyone wanted. He was always giving of himself, whether it was to lend a helping hand, give someone a ride, or give away his last dollar, he was a friend to all.
He loved to fish and went as often as he could, usually taking a friend or family member with him. He was an avid pool player and could be found defending his title whenever or wherever his pool league was playing.
Rory is survived by his father and stepmother, Frank and Nicki (Graff) Shelkey, Berthold, ND; sister, Lisa Hiller, Minot, ND; brothers, Derrick Shelkey, Berthold, ND, Kyle (Marissa) Shelkey, Berthold, ND and Ryan (Kelsey) Shelkey, Bakersfield, CA; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Rory was preceded in death by his mother, Lila (Houle) Shelkey; brother-in-law, Chad Hiller; paternal grandparents, Dale and Rose Shelkey; great grandmother, Dorothy Shelkey and step-grandparents, Burton and Gladys Graff.
Celebration of the life of Rory will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church, Berthold. There will be a time of fellowship and lunch following the service.
Public Viewing: Thursday, September 30, 2021, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
A private family burial at Wildrose Cemetery will take place later.
