Marvin Dale Anderson, 88, Garrison, formerly of Minot and Butte, died Saturday, September 25, 2021, in a Garrison hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Marvin was born June 22, 1933, in Turtle Lake, ND, the oldest son of Andrew A. Anderson and Helen (Boyko) Anderson. He was raised in Butte and educated until the 8th grade when he traded in schoolbooks for tractors when his Dad needed help on the farm. On November 28, 1954, Marvin was united in marriage to Carole Michalenko at Butte, ND.

Marvin and Carole made their home on a farm SW of Butte, where they helped Marvin’s mother with the farm operation. They started their family with the birth of Terry Lee in 1958, and in 1961 they were blessed with daughter Lori Beth. Marvin and Carole farmed together until they moved to Aberdeen for a short time but chose to return to Butte to continue farming. In 1965 they moved to Minot while continuing to farm in Butte and Kief. In 1977 they were again blessed with another daughter they adopted Melissa Lynn.

Marvin was employed for 23 years at Magic City Implement, a Case IH dealership in Minot. He enjoyed his career as a mechanic and semi driver, delivering farm equipment in the area. During this time, he also farmed alongside Carole until a work injury sidelined him in 1988.

You never saw Marvin without Carole. As Carole’s passion of being “Grippin Granny” became a busy hobby for her, Marvin was at her side as her pit crew. They travelled to State and County Fairs to participate in souped up Garden Tractor pulls. Marvin enjoyed playing bingo, camping, fishing, woodworking, motorcycle riding, threshing shows and trips to the casino. They were also known as collectors and would often be seen at many auctions in the area where he made multiple lifelong friends. They were always on the lookout for a good deal, scouting for tractors, collectibles and more. Marvin had such a keen eye for a valuable deal that no one else could see. He was patient at the auctions, scoping out items and listening to chatter that would clue him in on whether or not to bid on something. He rarely passed up a deal.

Along with spending time with Carole at Bingo and farming through the years, he was an avid “inventor”. He could take any problem, broken part, non-working equipment and bring them back to life. In his later years he created a pully system that helped him, and Carole stay home and independent well into the years when most people would be in assisted living. He could look at any problem and think and think to find a way to fix it.

Carole was the love of Marvin’s life, and he was heartbroken after losing her in March of this year. He missed her every day and longed to be united with her. The love they shared was the groundwork and inspiration for their family. They taught us about respect, love, patience, kindness, and loyalty no matter what. They stood by each other through thick and thin and their love never wavered. Marvin was such a fun-loving guy and had so much fun spending time with family and had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He was the best storyteller. He told his stories with his facial expressions, his hands, and arms and most of all his eyes, smile and laugh, they were contagious. He also gave the best hugs and would squeeze you so hard you always knew how much he loved you. If you were growing up in this family, you most likely got a whisker rub from time to time!

He was kindhearted and would give the shirt off his back to help anyone. Marvin made an impact on everyone he met and when you got to know him you loved him, he was a wonderful man and will be missed by all who knew him.

Marvin’s loving family includes Daughters, Lori (Ron) Thom, Garrison; Melissa Houston (Chad Fors), Minot; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Anderson, Harvey; grandchildren: Shantel (Aaron) Ottmar, Minot, Derek (Tammy) Anderson, Velva, Miranda (Rob) Adam, Harvey, Dana Anderson & Mirissa Anderson (Tom Milford), Butte, Megan Houston, Dylan Houston & Madison Houston, all of Burlington; great-grandchildren, Colton & Coy Anderson, Kemper Ottmar, Shayla & Waylon Adam, Terrey & Andrew Anderson; Special Bonus family, Dannie (Sherry) Evans; Special family friends, Deryl (Cindy) Martin; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
