Monica Kay

Monica Kaye Fox, 70, New Town, (Good Medicine “Xubaari Caagic”) died on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at St. Alexius hospital in Bismarck. Monica was born on April 19, 1951, in Elbowoods, ND to parents Olivia Two Crow and George Fox Jr. She attended Mandaree School until 3rd grade and transferred to St. Joseph Indian School in Chamberlain, SD until 8th grade, then graduated at Marty High School in Marty, SD. She went on to Town and Country Beauty College in Jamestown, ND. She is the mother of Winona (George) Goodleft, Heather Musil, and the late Sheldon Paulson and adopted daughter, Dianne Primeaux. Monica worked at the New Town High School for 9 years as an assistant cook, then later worked at Aging Services for 6 years. Monica had a passion for making star quilts and sewing. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends. Her home away from home was the Four Bears Casino where she was always with her sister, Zandra Fox, trying to win the big bucks. Monica and Sandy, also known as The Little Grandmas, were inseparable, if you saw one of them the other was sure to be there. Their humor was unfiltered and hilarious to say the least. If you were in the room with them, you were certain to leave with a belly ache from the laughter. They had the ability to make light of even the hardest situations. They were honestly one another’s better half. She enjoyed watching Old Westerns like Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and The Rifle Man. She loved to dance to Motown and Western music. Her sense of humor always left everyone with a smile and the stories she told were unforgettable and heartwarming. She always left a positive mark on everyone that crossed her path and helped others when it was needed.

Monica had special place in her heart for her Grandson David, their bond was an unspoken love but showed in the ways they always took care of each other. She was always there when David needed anything.  He can recall to when she would tuck him in snug, reassuring him he was safe, and he was loved. She loved feeding him his favorite egg sandwich and iced tea. She was always his biggest fan, his defender, and his confidant.

She had a unique way of caring for each one of her Grandchildren with her warm love and silly nature. Little Grandma never missed a special occasion, birthday, or holiday for her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. She took special care of her youngest Granddaughter Heaven Grace; she was grandmas’ little boss and kept her on her toes.

She always left a positive mark on everyone that crossed her path and helped others when it was needed. Monica will always be remembered as a loving and caring mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend to all.
