Herbert “Herbie” W. Kleinwaechter

Herbert  “Herbie” W. Kleinwaechter, 84, passed away surrounded by his family on September 2, 2021 at Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck. There will be a Liturgy of Word Service for Herb at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with Deacon Bob Zent presiding. Entombment will take place at the Dickinson Mausoleum. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service.

Herb was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on February 4, 1937 to Edward and Nora (Chadwick) Kleinwaechter. He eventually made his way to North Dakota where he met the love of his life- Shirley Lindemann, in Mott. They married on June 17, 1966 and had 6 children. Herb commented often that Shirley turned him into a better man.

Herbie was an avid classic car enthusiast. If he wasn’t out and about driving one of his classic cars or going to a car show, he was out and about talking to someone about classic cars or going to a car show. This helped him make easy friends wherever he went.

In fact it was his lifelong friend, Anton Dvorak, who helped Herbie take his passion for cars and trucks and turn it into his livelihood at East End Auto. “The shop” and driving truck were truly in his blood and his favorite subjects to talk about. Two of his sons, Rick and Mark would go on to own East End Auto in 1994 and expand the business even further.

Herbert is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Kleinwaechter, children- Rita (Randy) Hart, Herb Kleinwaechter, Jr, Kim (Jerry) McGarvey, Rick (Lisa) Kleinwaechter, Mark (Chris) Kleinwaechter, Shannon Bachmeier, and Anthony Kleinwaechter, 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and two sisters, and Herbert, Jr., who was stillborn.

On Herb’s final day on earth, he said “The best thing that ever happened to me was North Dakota”. His family and friends could not agree more. He will take one final ride in his 1950 Ford F-1 to the Dickinson Mausoleum where he will be laid to rest.
