Joan Hiller, 72, Minot, formerly of Rugby, died Thursday, September 9, 2021, in a Minot Hospital.
Joan was born April 10, 1949, at Moorhead, Minnesota, the daughter of Jerome and Mildred (Solum) Sillerud. She was raised and educated in Rothsay, MN and graduated from Rothsay High School in 1967. She attended Golden Valley Lutheran College in Golden Valley, MN, graduating with a degree in Parish Ministry.
Joan was placed with that ministry, working at Rugby, ND in 1969, where she met Curt Hiller. After a brief courtship they were united in marriage on November 1, 1970, at First Lutheran Church in Rugby.
Joan and Curt lived in Rugby until 1978, when they moved to Minot. Joan became employed as an administrative assistant for 25 years for Ward County, working first with the County tax department and then for 21 years in the Ward County Veteran’s Service Office. She retired in 2005.
To many, Joan was a “Prayer Warrior”, praying for countless people in the community and abroad. She spent many hours as the funeral lunch coordinator at Our Redeemers Lutheran Brethren Church. Joan loved the days that she and Curt could take their RV and go camping around North Dakota. She will be remembered most as a loving friend to many. May God bless her loving memory.
Her loving family includes, husband of 50 plus years, Curt; mother, Mildred Boen, Barnesville, MN; brother, Dean Sillerud, Rothsay, MN; sisters in law, Ellen (Kurt) Knutson, Minot and Veve Nelson, Minot, brother in law, Craig (Judy Nelson) Hiller, Cole Harbor, ND; step sisters, Nadine (Myron) Compton, Spearfish, SD, Noreen (Art) Perina, Gretna, NE, Naomi (Mike) Frantes, Cedar Park, TX, Natalie (Jim) Gregory, Gretna, NE, Kerri (Steve) Black, Kent, WA, Kandace (Doug) Gorsuch and Kathy (Joe) Paulson, both of Ramsey, MN; step brother Kevin (Anita) Boen, Fergus Falls, MN along with several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her father, Jerome Sillerud; stepfather Cal Boen, and her father in law and mother in law, George and Ruth Hiller.
Visitation/Gathering & Book signing: Saturday, September 18, 2021, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
At the family’s request there will not be a service.
Interment: ND Veterans Cemetery, Rural Mandan, ND.
Memorials are preferred to Dakota Hope Clinic, Minot or the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
