With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Leonard Lawrence Boehm, 85, who died August 26, 2021 at Sanford Medical Center, Bismarck.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at Church of the Ascension, 1825 S 3rd St, Bismarck.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Monday, August 30, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm.

Leonard was born on November 8, 1935, in Mandan, the son of George and Eva (Berger) Boehm. He grew up and attended school in Mandan.

On November 8, 1955, he married Dolores Lang at St. Mary’s Church, Bismarck. Following their wedding, Leonard went on to attend meat cutting school in Toledo, Ohio. He worked for Cloverdale and local grocery stores as a meat cutter before purchasing the HiWay Grocery Store in Linton. In 1977, they returned to Mandan, where Leonard founded, owned, and operated his family business, Village Marts, in Mandan and Bismarck. After retirement, he worked for Walmart and Sanford.

Leonard loved being in the company of people and was a father figure to many. He had a talent of making people feel comfortable and was well respected for the care and help he provided family, friends, and even strangers. He enjoyed playing golf, bridge, dancing and traveling.  He was a member of the Mandan Chamber of Commerce and also served as a volunteer firefighter. His greatest joy was being surrounded by his family and spending time with them.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores, Bismarck; three children, Leonard Jr., Bismarck, Lenette (Mark) Momerak, Bismarck, Lisa (Scott) Wolf, Mandan; grandchildren, Lee Boehm, Chad (Laurie) Momerak, Sara (David) Young, Mandy (Cory Schnell) Herberholz, Nick (Brittany) Herberholz, and Alex Wolf; great grandchildren, Madison, Hailey and Courtney Momerak, Devin and Danika Young, Aspen and Meadow Schnell, and Daxton Herberholz; sister, Irene (Morris) Tschider; sister-in-law, Joann Boehm; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jim Boehm, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Louis and Elizabeth Lang; two grandchildren, Lance and Charlie Boehm; and his great grandchild, Mercedes Momerak.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church of the Ascension.
