Obituary
Barbara Jean Rud, 80, Center, died August 21, 2021, at the Baptist Home, Bismarck.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Center, with Fr. Stephen Folorunso celebrating and Monsignor Chad Gion as homilist. Burial will be at St. Martin’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 6 PM on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at St. Martin’s Catholic Church, with a Parish Rosary & Vigil at 6 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Barbara was born September 15, 1940, to August and Veronica (Schwartzenberger) Sasse. Barb was raised and educated in Hazen, ND, graduating from Hazen High School. She attended Dickinson State Teachers College and the University of Mary, receiving her Elementary Education degree. While in college, Barb met Sheldon Rud. They were married on January 2, 1961, in New Salem where they made their home and started a family. Barb taught in New Salem for five years before moving to Center where she continued to teach for over three decades. She loved teaching and had such a passion for educating youth. Her family meant everything to her and Barb treasured time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, especially at Christmas time. She was a fantastic cook and was known for her wonderful scalloped potatoes, creamed chicken, and zucchini bars. No one ever left her home hungry. Above all, Barbs faith and love for the Lord was first and foremost in her life.
Blessed to have shared in her life are her three children, Michelle Pelerine, Bismarck, Mike (Mary) Rud, Bismarck, and Gus (Sharon) Rud, Center; eight grandchildren, Abbey (Justin) Beutler, Jill Pelerine, Brittany (Tylone) Jasper, Whitney, Mykle, Macy, Micaela, and Madison Rud; ten great-grandchildren, Kylie, Elijah, MaKenna, Eden, Harper, Emily, Sheldon, Maverick, Eilah, and Daxton; and sister-in-law, Annette Rud, New Salem.
Barb was preceded in death by her husband, Sheldon, in 2016; her parents; brother, Richard; and brother-in-law, Curtis Rud.
