Martha “Marty” Holum, 94, died Sunday, August 8, 2021 in a Minot nursing home.

Marty was born December 13,1926 at Barnesville, Minnesota, the daughter of Theodore and Rose (Wessel) Holum.   She was raised at Barnesville and graduated from Barnesville High School in 1944. She continued her education at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and graduated in 1948 with a degree in English and minored in Physical Education and Health.  

After graduation, Marty taught in Hawley, Minnesota and then moved to Minot and taught at Central Campus from 1955 to 1978 when she retired. 

Marty was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church, Minot, where she was active with the Bethel & Search Bible study groups and was a secretary for the Church Women.  She also served as a deaconess, visiting shut-ins and the sick members of the congregation. 

Marty was also a member of the following groups:  Wise Women Investment Club, Minot Business and Professional Women’s Association and two bridge clubs.  She loved spending time with family and friends and enjoyed summering at Lake Lizzie in MN. 

Her loving family includes, longtime friend, Ardella Bader, Minot; nieces, Laura Skoglund and her daughter, Kari Batey, Cheyenne, WY; Mary Marske, Spencer, IA; Ann Baker, Annapolis, MD; Ruth Booman, Beaufort, SC; Martha Lionberger, Knoxville, TN; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

Marty was predeceased by her parents and her two sisters, Harriet Skoglund and Justine Lionberger; and nephew, Steve Skoglund.

Celebration of Life service:  Friday, August 13, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Minot followed by luncheon.

Interment: Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. in the Barnesville Cemetery, Barnesville, MN.

Contributions may be made in her memory to First Lutheran Church or The Salvation Army, Minot.
