Kimberly Pross

Kimberly Jo Pross (Kim), age 67, of Minot, North Dakota, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on February 22, 2026, from complications of heart failure and blood cancer (MDS).

Kim was born on December 3, 1958, in Minot, Ward County, North Dakota, to Wilfred Lester Pross and Gwendolyn Faye McGillivray Pross. She was raised in Minot and attended Ramstad Junior High and Minot High School.

In the mid 1970s through the early 1980s, Kim worked in the oil field industry, including as an owner operator in oil field services, where she was known for her strong work ethic, independence, and determination. She also worked for many years in the financial services sector with U.S. Bank, where she began her roles in information technology. In every role she held, Kim brought reliability, resilience, and pride in her work.

Kim highly valued her education and lifelong learning. She pursued studies at Minot State University and earned her Associate of Arts degree in May 1991. She later continued her education with a bachelor of science degree from the University of Minnesota, studying the sociology of law, criminology, and justice. Kim completed additional professional training and certifications in information technology on her own time, always seeking to sharpen her skills.

Over the years, Kim continued to work in the information technology field while she lived in Minot and Fargo, North Dakota, as well as Tucson, Arizona and Dallas, Texas, before returning to Minot. Even in retirement, she remained active and engaged, working part time as a civilian test administrator for the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) and traveling to high schools throughout western North Dakota to support students and maintain testing integrity. No matter where she lived, family and friends remained at the center of her life.

Kim believed in taking care of her people. She lived that belief through action, stepping in to help both family members and friends during critical moments in their lives. These acts carried deep impact and long lasting positive effects.

Kim had a special presence with every child in her family, making each feel included and valued through fun, attention, and shared moments. She was a beloved aunt and second mother to many.

Kim is preceded in death by: her parents, Wilfred Lester Pross and Gwendolyn Faye Pross; sister, Elizabeth Ann Pross, and many extended family members, including her nephew Patrick Pross and niece Ashley Pross. She was also preceded in death by her beloved dog Smoky, who was a constant companion and source of comfort.

Following the death of her sister, Kim became the matriarch of the family, offering steadiness, loyalty, and care to those around her.

Kim is survived by: her siblings, James Pross (Kathy Luyten), Lake Audubon, ND,  Richard Pross (Julie), Fargo, ND, David Pross, Sacramento, CA, Keith Pross (Amie), Phoenix, AZ,  Mary Kay Carlson (Todd), Minot, ND, Nancy Johnson (Dave), Minot, ND and Susan Pross, Minot, ND; her friend who became a sister for life, Alicia Britton, Fargo, ND; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who loved her dearly. Kim will be remembered for her quiet strength, perseverance, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends. She faced life’s challenges with courage and grace and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A celebration of Kim’s life will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2026 at 12:00PM in Minot at the Scandinavian Heritage Park under the Nordic shelter. All are welcome to join in the celebration of her life.

In keeping with her faith and the wishes of her family, Kim’s ashes will be lovingly laid to rest at several meaningful locations at later times. These include Scobey, Montana, at the farmstead of her maternal great-grandparents, James and Clarissa Dickinson; Fessenden, North Dakota, at the farmstead of her paternal great-grandparents, David and Clara Pross; Moorhead, Minnesota, at her father’s resting place; Rose Hill Cemetery in Minot, North Dakota, alongside her mother and sister; and Lake Audubon, North Dakota, a multigenerational family gathering place cherished for decades.
