Susan Rose Francis, 70, Des Lacs, died Friday, December 19, 2025, at Trinity Hospital in Minot.
Susan was born December 16, 1955, in Minot, ND to Frank and Lorraine (Vanderberg) Schmitz. She was raised in Minot and attended North Dakota School for the Deaf in Devils Lake, ND until 1972.
Susan married Darrell Francis on April 14, 1973, at Augustana Lutheran Church, Minot, ND. As a stay-at-home mom, Susan raised their children and helped with the grandkids, especially when the parents needed a break.
She enjoyed traveling on family trips across the country; often camping along the way, visiting many of the relatives out west, seeing National Parks as well as amusement parks.
Susan was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, known for her kindness, laughter, being an excellent cook and a great card/game player. She dedicated herself to her family and community, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew her.
Susan is survived by her husband Darrell Francis, Des Lacs, three sons: Joshua (Anne) Francis, Jason (Amy) Francis and Jeremy (Stacey) Francis, grandchildren Karter, Aspyn, Ryker, Tayden, Ava, Sawyer, Hudson and Hallie Francis, and Hannah (Tristin) Martin, great-grandson Bru Martin, and sister-in-law Roxine (Dave) ODell and Mike Francis, sister Mary (Jeff) Brooks along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Susan was preceded in death by our son, Brent, grandson Kanyon, her parents and brothers Gary and David Schmitz.
