Obituary

Caroline Kroh, 91, New Salem, passed away July 22, 2021, at Sanford Health Sunset Drive Care Center, Mandan.

A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at Peach Church, New Salem, with Rev. Gaylund G. Olson officiating.  Burial will be at Peace Cemetery.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Caroline was born to Albert VanderWal and Elzina Winterberg at the family home in Emmons County, ND, on June 9, 1930.  She was the 7th of 8 children in the family.  After graduating from 8th grade, she was unable to go to high school so after she turned 18 she took four years of high school by correspondence and graduated two years later.  She attended teaching college at Ellendale, ND.  She moved to New Salem to teach 2nd grade and it was there that she met her future husband, George Kroh, and they were married on August 25, 1955.  Caroline taught in New Salem and country school for several years.  From 1984-2004 Caroline worked at Elm Crest Manor.

Caroline loved to cook and bake and took immense pride in her flowers.  She enjoyed watching the birds from her deck and liked to identify the different types that ate from her bird feeders. Caroline was preceded in death by her husband, George, and six of her siblings.

Caroline is survived by her son, Daniel Kroh of New Salem and his sons, Jarrod and Braydon and daughter, Jessi; her daughter, Debra Kaelberer and her husband, Monte, and their son, Devon, of Greenbelt, MD; her brother, Willis, was the sole surviving sibling but he also passed on July 22, 2021.
