
Mary J. Anderson, 87, Minot died peacefully on June 14, 2025 in a Minot assisted living facility with her family at her side.
Mary Jeanette Wilson was born on July 23, 1937 in Hettinger, ND to Tolof and Florence (Shillingstad) Wilson. She was raised and educated in Lodge Pole, SD and Coleharbor, ND and graduated from Coleharbor High School in 1954. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Concordia College, Moorhead, MN and continued her higher education at the College of Great Falls, MT.
Mary married Ralph Morris and taught school in Montana. After Ralph’s passing she returned to North Dakota and taught school in Underwood. She married Charles Anderson. They were parents to Charles, Christian and Jenna. Mary attended the University of Mary receiving a degree in addiction counseling. She worked at Heartview and later St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bottineau and Minot. After retirement she enjoyed traveling the world to visit her daughter and son-in-law.
Mary was a former member of Augustana Lutheran Church- Underwood and the Community Action Opportunities Board of Directors – Bismarck and ND Board of Addiction Counseling Examiners. She is a licensed addiction counselor, social worker secondary education teacher and a member of the National Association of Addiction counselors. She especially enjoyed reading, collecting dolls, cooking, baking, traveling and family functions.
Mary’s loving family includes her children: Charles Anderson Jr. of Underwood, Christian (Stacie) Anderson of Pick City, ND and Jenna (Mike) Murieen of Nellis AFB, Las Vegas; grandchildren: Jaden, Emilee and Anika; brother: Mark (Kathy) Wilson of Modesto CA, sister-in-law: Shirley Wilson of Coleharbor and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Ralph Morris, siblings: William “Bill” Wilson and Mike (Barb) Wilson; and grandson: Andrew Anderson.
Celebration of the Life of Mary Anderson: Thursday, June 19, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home Chapel – Minot.
Interment in the Chinook, MT Community Cemetery.
Visitation: Will be one hour prior to the service in Thomas Family Funeral Home.
Memorials are preferred to the Souris Valley Animal Shelter or local chapter of Diabetes Association.
