Betty Martin, 81, Minot and formerly of Selz died peacefully on Saturday, June 7, 2025 in a Garrison nursing home with her family at her side.
Betty Joann was born on December 12, 1943 near Selz, ND to Ludwig and Adeline (Schwan) Vetter. She was raised on the family farm near Selz, attended country school, graduated from Harvey High School in 1962 and attended a beauty school in Fargo. As a young adult she was employed in Minot.
Betty married Ralph Martin on June 17, 1963 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Selz. They made their home for a short time in Rugby and Velva prior to moving to Minot in 1965 where she was employed at the Artistry Hair Salon for a few years. Later, she was employed as a cook/kitchen manager by the Minot Public Schools at Ramstad Junior High School for twenty-eight years. During this time, she assisted her husband and sons in the ownership and operation of Ralph’s Plumbing and Heating. She retired in 1996 and was able to spend twenty winters in Arizona.
Betty was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church – Minot. She especially enjoyed traveling, sewing, shopping and decorating for all holidays especially Christmas.
Betty’s loving family includes her husband of 61 years: Ralph; sons: Kevin (Loni) Martin and Keith (Debbie) Martin all of Minot; grandchildren: Jesika (Jake) Niess, Jadin (Laura) Martin, Karisa (David) Owen and Kaitlyn (Jacob) Saunders; great grandchildren: Mathew, Conor, Macoy, Theo, Benjamin, Maddox, Eleanor and Amelia; siblings: Delanis (Elaine) Vetter of rural Selz, Lloyd (Sharon) Vetter of Center City, MN and Sharon (Jim) Ell of Minot and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and brother: Ralph.
Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, June 13, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church – Minot. A livestream of the service may be viewed by using the link in Betty’s website obituary.
Vigil Prayer Service: Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home – Minot.
Visitation: Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home – Minot.
Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park – Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Benedictine Senior Living in Garrison.
