John Novodvorsky Jr., 93, Minot formerly of Douglas, ND, passed away peacefully April 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family in a Minot assisted living facility.
John Jr. was born October 3, 1931, in Douglas, ND to John and Vera (Karpenko) Novodvorsky. He was raised and educated like most of his era in country schools in Hilton and Rice Lake Township of Ward County. As a young adult he worked alongside his father, tending to the duties of the farm and the land.
John Jr. was united in marriage to Evernne Shaw on November 28, 1953 in Douglas. They made their home on the Novodvorsky family farmstead in Hilton Township, where together they raised small grains and cattle. He retired in 1994 but still assisted and consulted with his son and grandkids on the ranch.
John Jr. was a member of the Antique Caterpillar Machine Owners Club and ND Military Vehicle Collectors Association. He carried memberships with the Makoti Threshing Association and the Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion, Billings County Historical Society and the NRA. John Jr. also served terms on the Calvary Chapel Church and South Prairie School Boards.
He enjoyed the outdoors, where he hunted, fished and trapped for many years. His talented hands tanned hides, repaired and built saddles, and restored caterpillar tractors to add to his collection. John was a gunsmith and had a keen eye for adding firearms to his collection. Woodworking and traveling filled many days leading to stories shared with many about the adventures and experiences he had lived.
John is survived by his children John III (Brenda) Novodvorsky, Douglas, Evernne (Michael) Meier, Minot, Jason (Brenda) Novodvorsky, Douglas, Evette (Mitch) Melby, Minot and Evonne (Franklin) Booker, Minot; grandchildren Sheri Lang, Shane (Jami) Novodvorsky, Jana (Kevin) Frederick, Kris (Christopher) Kubal, David (Amanda) Novodvorsky, Alyssa Swiney and Sara Tickerhoof; great-grandchildren Cheyenne and Tucker Lang, Tate and Miranda Novodvorsky, Karina and John Frederick, Brindle and Lauren Kubal, Gavyn, Gabriel and Harper Tickerhoof; his ‘Summer’ son and nephew Macklin Halsted, Fairfield, CA; sister Irene Novodvorsky, St. Paul, MN; brothers-in-law Gary (Jo) Shaw, Kerkhoven, MN and Curtis (Cathy) Shaw, Crosby, ND, sister-in-law Ursula Shaw, Minot along with numerous nieces and nephews.
