Isabell Klein, 90, Minot and formerly of Linton died on December 31, 2024 at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck.
Isabell was born on October 8, 1934 in Winona Township of Emmons County near Linton, ND to Anton and Rosina (Masseth) Roehrich. She was raised on the family farm and attended country school, St. Anthony’s School and graduated third in her class from Linton High School in 1954. As a young adult she was employed at J.C. Penney’s in Linton.
Isabell married Mathew Klein on July 26, 1956 in Linton. They made their home in Amarillo, TX where Matt was stationed with the U.S. Air Force. Following Matt’s honorable discharge they moved to Fargo, ND where Matt graduated from NDSU. They moved to Los Angeles, CA for a time before returning to North Dakota and settled in Minot in 1967. She moved with Matt and the three youngest daughters to Germany in 1979 where she embraced the culture and continued to cook her German dishes. During this time she traveled around Europe and saw the Pope. She spent many decades raising their six daughters and managing the household. Isabell’s employment included managing the alabaster shop at Robinson Barracks in Stuttgart, Germany and working at the Mongomery Ward Catalog Department, MSU Bookstore and Bible Bookstore prior to her retirement in 1995.
Isabell was an active member of Little Flower Catholic Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister and member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters. Also, she was a member of the St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary, Republican Women and volunteered from 1989 – 2018 at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Trinity Homes. During the ND legislative sessions, she was part of the spouses program. She especially enjoyed reading, canning, knitting, and traveling across the country to spend time with her daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Isabell’s loving family includes her children: Sharon (Dave) Voeller, Rita (Jim) Cooper, Diane (Jeffrey) Cooper, Joan Klein (David) Burch, Kathleen Schiefer (Joe) and Karen Fiest (David Coyle); grandchildren: Melissa Voeller, Christopher (Kelli) Cooper, Danielle (Joseph Boyce) Cooper, Derek (Shannon) Schell, Kyle Schell, Benjamin Clark Burch, Anna (Aaron) Axvig, Jordan (Ashley) Schiefer, Noah Schiefer and Ryan Schiefer; great grandchildren: Kylie Boyce, Wayne Galloway, Johnathan Galloway, Aiden Boyce Cooper, Bryce Schell, Isabella Boyce Cooper, Penelope Schiefer, Alice Axvig and Avril Axvig; siblings: Sister Eva Roehrich, and Rosina Eymann and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Isabell was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters: Marian, Regina, Clara and Bernadette and brothers: Matt, Anton, Lawrence, Sebastian, Joseph, Matthew, Nick, Leopald and Mike.
Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, January 3, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. in St. Therese, Church of the Little Flower – Minot. To view a livestream of the service access www.mtmsales.com/thomas
Graveside Service: January 3, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery – rural Mandan.
Visitation will be held a half hour prior to the service in the church.
Memorials are preferred to the Little Flower Catholic Church Foundation or Bishop Ryan High School Foundation.
