Elroy ‘Buster’ Slavick, 94, Minot, died Friday, December 13, 2024, in a Minot hospital.
Elroy was born January 6, 1930, in Minot ND, son of Chris and Anna (Miller) Slavick. He was raised in Minot. In 1947, at the age of 17, Elroy found work at Sweetheart Bakery in Minot and delivered their products to surrounding towns.
In 1951, Elroy was drafted into the Army. He served for two years, spending 16 months in Korea. During his time in Korea, through training and instruction, he became a power lineman. Elroy was awarded the Korean Service Medal with three bronze stars and the United Nations Service for his honorable service. He was honorably discharged in 1953 and returned to North Dakota.
Elroy was united in marriage to Janice Andreasen on June 13, 1954, at Mirage Flats, Hay Springs, NE. 2024 marked 70 years of marriage! They made their home in Minot and were blessed with four children.
In 1957, Elroy started his career at Northern States Power Company in Minot. He became a journey lineman, and earned promotions throughout his 31-year career, retiring as foreman of a line crew in 1988.
He was a member of the American Legion and a member of Christ Lutheran Church. He enjoyed traveling with Jan to several places over the years and will be remembered for his quick wit, humor, gift of gab, and being a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Elroy is survived by his wife Jan, Minot, ND; children Shelle (Rick) Novak, Hendrum, MN, Sharla (Larry) Nesson, Burlington, ND, and Randy (Nancy) Slavick, Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren Jerame (Lindsey) Novak, Jordan (Tasya) Novak, Jessa Novak, Kyla (Giles) Snyder, Karlee (Daniel) Klindworth, and Cody (Tia) Nesson; 8 great-grandchildren; sister Deilla Larson, Minot, ND, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Elroy was preceded in death by his parents, three-year-old daughter Sherre Sue, half-sister Maebert Ott, and his best friend and brother, Laymn ‘Bud’ Slavick.
A private celebration of Elroy’s Life will be held in May 2025.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Family and friends are invited to sign a memorial register book or leave a card of sympathy on Thursday, December 19, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Christ Lutheran Church, Minot.
