Wayne Ordell McLain, 90, of Minot, formerly of Mohall, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2024, at Edgewood Vista Memory Care in Minot.
Wayne was born on September 19, 1934, in Mohall, North Dakota, to John and Leona (Schroeder) McLain. He grew up in Renville County, attending the Clay Center School and working on the family farm. Following his education, he moved to Los Angeles, CA and was employed through a Winter season before returning to ND. In 1955, he began his lifelong career with the City of Minot’s Sanitation Department, eventually retiring in 1994 as Superintendent of the Street and Sanitation Departments after nearly 40 years of dedicated service.
On June 19, 1955, Wayne married Delia Krause in Mohall, and together they built a life full of love and family in Minot, raising five children. Wayne was an avid walker over the years, and he and Delia enjoyed dancing, gardening, playing bingo, and spending time with loved ones. After Delia’s passing in 2009, Wayne remained active in his church, Bethany Lutheran, where he volunteered regularly. He was also a proud member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and the Eagles of Minot.
Wayne’s memory will be cherished by his loving family, including his children: Vickie (Gaylen) Erck of Minot, Lori Hanson (Mike Mathis) of Minot, Jodi (Dave) Krueger of Minot, and Cory (Michele) McLain of Folsom, CA. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Karyn McLain of Brainerd, MN; and his 9 grandchildren: Ronnie (Yolanda) Hanson, Jami (Mike) Derheim, Jesse McLain, Kyle (Caitlyn Hoggarth) McLain, Dylan McLain, Alanna Krueger, Rhanda (Mateo Bustamante) Pretzer, Brendan McLain, and Dylan McLain.
